Antique Georgian 14k Gold Miniature Painting Maritime Woman & Anchor Pendant

For your consideration this antique Georgian era sentimental portrait pendant is crafted in 14 karat yellow gold. It is navette shaped measuring 1 1/4 inches long, just under 3/4 inches wide. Housed under the mineral crystal is a sepia painted portrait of a woman, longing for her maritime lover resting over an anchor. The mourner is clearly on land with a departing ship sailing off in the background. The pendant has an engraved border and a closed back with a jump ring bail. Gold content was tested with a Niton DXL spectral XRF precious metal analyzer.

Ideals around the mystery of the sea and the fear of the unknown drive a great deal of romantic thought about that which is unexplored. A voyage into the unknown can be dangerous and exciting. However, the jewelry that depicts the ship, sea and/or mourning figure hinges upon representations of loneliness and longing for the departed to come back. Specifically, anchors represented hope.
